Charles Spurgeon said, "When we cannot trace God's hand, we must simply trust God's heart." The destruction and loss of life from Hurricane Katrina are almost unbearable. Yet, the overwhelming sound of hope rings loudly as well. Lynwood has sent over 45,000 bottles of water, food, cleaning supplies, and more than $25,000 for disaster relief. Teams from Lynwood, along with many from the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief agency, have been down to the damaged areas to provide much needed assistance with downed trees and cleaning, as well as to help provide showers and hot meals. The Southeast Missouri Feeding Unit has provided up to 2,000 meals per day and more than 60,000 meals as of the first of October. Thank you for your continued commitment to pray, give, and go, as we reach out to the churches that have been affected by Hurricane Katrina. Through the Adopt-a-Church program, Lynwood has been assigned to help the First Baptist Church of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, and Calvary Baptist Church in New Orleans. Our goal is to help them refresh their spirits, renew their faith and trust in God, and to help them rebuild their church. Disaster Relief teams have already been down to Bay St. Louis clearing debris and cleaning houses, but there is much more work that needs to be done.
If you are interested in going on a short-term mission trip to one of our partnership churches, please contact us and we can put you in touch with volunteers to help coordinate your trip. Financial assistance is also a primary need. You can help contribute financially by designating your offering to “Lynwood Disaster Relief.” Gifts can also be sent to the North American Mission Board online at www.namb.net/disasterrelief, by phone at 888-571-5895, or by mail to P.O. Box 116543, Atlanta, GA 30368-6543. Every dollar will go to disaster recovery ministry. As John Rhodes, SEMO Regional Disaster Relief Coordinator, says, “We are still seeing God do a God size work. Remember what the Bible teaches us. See where God is working and join Him. Right now, that is with the Gospel and through Disaster Relief.” For more information on the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Ministry of Southeast Missouri,
