Acts 1:8 Challenge

She started strong.  She ran hard, reaching deep within
for all the energy that could be found.  She can see the end, but only vaguely as she strains every muscle in a frantic fight to the finish.  She looks around and sees the others in the race alongside her, encouraging her to not lose sight of the victor’s crown that awaits each one that finishes the course.  She sees the hills in front of her that must be climbed along the way and wonders if the celebration at the end will really be worth it all.  She feels the agony and the pain, and she knows it will only go away when the long journey ahead of her is left behind her.  Each step of the race will forever be etched in her mind.  Each participant is but an encouraging reminder that she is not alone.  She pushed forward.  She doesn’t quit.  The end is in sight!

What race is she in?  Better yet, who is she?  Why does she run?  Simply put, the race is the pilgrimage of faith every Acts 1:8 follower of Jesus Christ must diligently pursue.  She is the bride of Christ, the Church in all her glory.  She runs because Jesus has softly spoken to her heart: “Come follow me.  Journey into the unchartered with the gospel of peace.  Go, and make disciples.  Teach them.  Baptize them.  Love them.  I will place my spirit within you.  I will put my Word in your heart.  I will be with you always.  I will await you and be the first to greet you at the journey’s end.  GO!!!” It is the cry of our heart.  It is the demand of the gospel.  It is the call of God.  Will you answer the call?  Will you place your time, talents, and treasures in the hands of the One who promises to meet your every need?  Together we can achieve what we never could alone.  Join us!  Make your mark!  Be faithful to the finish!
